James Lewis Angell, 94, of Boones Mill, Va., passed away on Monday, March 8, 2010, at Loyalton Assisted Living in Roanoke.

He was born on February 29, 1916, and was retired from the Roanoke County Sheriff's Department (Sgt. and Chief Bailiff). He was a member of Isaacs Lodge #29, Boones Mill, Va., AF & AM, a member of Roanoke Scottish Rite Bodies 32°, a member of Kazim Shriners AAONMS and a member of Boones Mill Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Choir Member for many years.

He was predeceased by his mother, Lucy B. Hall; stepfather, Elisha Hal; daughters, Marie Angell Brown and Gloria Carolyn Angell; brothers, John Angell, Thomas Cundiff and Jesse Cundiff; and sisters, Dorothy Craighead, Lillie Guthrie and Ethel Turman.

Surviving family includes his wife of 74 years, Dorothy Fisher Angell; children and their spouses, Joanne and Frank Kennedy, Joseph and Jean Angell, Connie and Cliff Slone and Guy and Tammy Angell; grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff and Tammy Kennedy, Teresa and Jeff VanBuren, Sherry and Fred Malpass, Rob and Beth Brown, Mark and Jennifer Angell, Deana and Dwayne Brogan, Scott and Wendy Ross-Terry and April and Wade Yopp; great-grandchildren, Quinn and Cara Kennedy, Kelsey Angell, Jared Thomas, Seth Brogan, Justin Malpass, Tommy and Kailee Brown, Ryan Wilkerson and Gloria Angell Ross-Terry; sistersin-law, Nettie Sink, Frances Dangerfield and Janie Turman; a host of grand and great-grand pets, Molly, Lexee, Bentley, Penni, Chipper, Sylvester, Witty, Gadget, Butterbean, Biscuit, Mya, Max, Buttercup, Sissy, Thomas, Buddy, Coco, Bentley the Cat, Bo, Puffers, Princess, Violet and Jeffrey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Lotz Funeral Home Chapel in Roanoke with Pastor Jim Steele and Dr. Richard Harrell officiating.

Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation for the love and support that has been shown by everyone during this time.
