James was thought to be the son of William and Elizabeth (Beal) Salisbury. But thanks to fellow researcher, Darrell Austin, who found James's obituary, we now know that James was the oldest son o Barnard and Prudence (Child) Salisbury. Additionally his obituary shows his death date as 29 Sep 1869.
