According to US Army records:

Born: February 22, 1842 in Cold Creek, Allegheny Co., NY
Pre War Occupation: Cooper

Promoted to Corporal 05 JUN 1864

"Involved in the Battle of Locust Grove, with Gen. Grant through The Wilderness + Spotsylvania - Battle of Monocracy, MD July 9, 1864 wounded by ball in left arm sent to Hosp. and discharged from Hosp. June 29, 1865."

Note: he got shot in the left arm by (likely) a .50 caliber (half inch diameter) lead ball.

Discovered that the Hiram Curtis GAR Post 114 in Albion was organized and gathered for the first time on Friday August 22, 1879. Orson was elected as the Post's first Commander. They had about 50 members at that time.
