Death Certificate cites name spelled Harriet Maria Outcalt, gravestone indicates Outcault.

Jan. 14 2012 According to Mary Jane (mdn. Outcault) Pershing - daughter of Richard Felton Outcault pioneer cartoonist (Buster Brown etc.) ... Harriet Outcalt was the sister of Jessie Pugh Outcalt who was RFOs father. Mary Jane called her 'Aunt Hattie' and said she lived with Jessie and his wife Catherine upstairs and was the kindliest and helpful person to them and their offspring. Her 'beau' (MJs term) - and betrothed, was a soldier in the Civil War and was killed and she never married. In the family photos there is one picture of a civil war soldier which we believe was this gentleman. Since her name was spelled Outcalt and only RFO started inserting the extra 'u' for Outcault - (which is on her tombstone) - it is probable that RFO had her tombstone made (probable) with the added 'U' and the same may be true for his sister Mathilda Pearl Outca(u)lt who died at about 6 or 7 years old. Her nickname was 'Tilly' .... JC
