King attended Alexander College Institute of Jacksonville, Texas, 1898-99; admitted to the bar, 1900; practiced law 1904-1907; member of Texas House of Representatives, 1908-09 Session. 1901-02, was in the US Army during Philippine Insurrection; 1915-17, a Legislator, this time in the Senate; 1917-18, S. M. King was Associate Justice of 9th Supreme Judicial Dist. Federal Court; 1919-36, again in general practice; from 1936-49, served Eastern Dist. of Texas as US Atty., and was Vice-Pres. of U.S. Attorneys Conference in 1942-43.
