HENDERSON, Ky. — Lorenzo Banks, 61, departed this life on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, in Decatur, Ga., after a brief illness. Lorenzo was born in Henderson to Wilbur and Louise Cooksey Banks on March 16, 1948.
He professed a faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Henderson. Lorenzo retired from Delta Airlines in August 2006. He lived part of his life in Evansville, Ind., and Terre Haute, Ind., but resided in Stone Mountain, Ga., for twenty-nine year.
Lorenzo and his brother, Donald, are the family historians and have published two family history books dating back to the early 1800s. They started their research in 1987, and one of the publications now resides in the Henderson County Library.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Louise Banks.
He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Emily M. Banks; daughter, Kendra N. (Delton) Bates, Conley, Ga.; son, Anthone' L. Banks, Norcross, Ga.; two brothers, Donald E. (Pearl) Banks, Henderson, Ky., and Wilbur (Cindy) Banks of Evansville; two sisters, Patricia L. (Lewis) Armstead and Linda S. (Lorenzo) Odom, Morrisville, N.C.; two grandsons, Delton B. II and Kendall R. Bates; one uncle, John Banks, Cleveland, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services 11 a.m. Feb. 20, 2010, at the First Missionary Baptist Church, 20 S. Elm Street, Henderson, KY. 42420. The Rev. Robert A. Esters will officiate.
Burial in Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2010, at the First Missionary Baptist Church.
