Per his obituary, John Ervin was born in Binghamton, [Broome County], New York, on 6 July 1832, to James and Elmira Ervin, the eleventh of twelve children. When he was age 2, the family moved to Michigan, then, when he was 10, to Wisconsin and when 21, to Winneshiek County, Iowa. He married Fidelia R. Sage at Burr Oak, Winneshiek County, Iowa, on 3 December 1857. My great grandmother, Lillie Luella (Ervin) Stoddard, was one of their nine children. There are photographs of John and Fidelia Ervin on page 100 of William Henry Stoddard's Turner County Pioneer History. John Ervin died 3 February 1915 in Akron, Iowa, and Fidelia died 22 June 1923 in Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, South Dakota. John and Fidelia are both buried in the Rosehill Cemetery in Parker, Turner County, South Dakota.
