Mrs. Norelli, 87, a longtime resident of Charlottesville, Virginia, died on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, following a long illness.

Mrs. Norelli, and her late husband, Alfred Arnold Norelli, had become residents of Sunrise @ Eastover Assisted Living Facility in Charlotte, North Carolina, in June of 2005.

Mrs. Norelli was born on October 7, 1919, in Baltimore, Maryland, the eldest child of James Robert and Marie Elizabeth (Becker) Allen. "Bettye" Allen and Lieutenant Al Norelli were married on July 8, 1944, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Following his return from the Pacific in March, 1946, they resided in New Jersey until retiring to Charlottesville in 1971.

During their 25 years in New Jersey, Mrs. Norelli was active in the Presbyterian churches of Livingston and Basking Ridge, including teaching Sunday school. Later, she and her husband were long-time members of First Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, Virginia, where her volunteer activities included responsibility for sanctuary flowers each week for approximately 20 years. She also was a beloved volunteer in the gift shop of the University of Virginia Medical Center for more than 20 years. Mrs. Norelli loved being a homemaker and supporting her husband in the family business in New Jersey. Her hobbies included interior decorating, and she loved to sing and dance to Big Band music.

Since June of 2006, Mrs. Norelli enjoyed the loving care of her daughter, Beth, and her husband, Jerry, on their horse farm in Perry, Michigan. Mrs. Norelli also enjoyed the special companionship of Miniature Schnauzers, Nicholas and Alexander, the beautiful landscape and graceful Arabian horses, and the antics of a host of small animals rescued by the family.

Mrs. Norelli was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, who died on December 2, 2005; and sister, Dr. Ruth Margaret Allen of Baltimore; and brother, Major (Retired) Lewis Daniel Allen of Fayetteville, North Carolina. She is survived by her children, Ronald Allen Norelli and his wife, Nancy Black Norelli, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Ruth Elizabeth Norelli Czajkowski and her husband, Gerald Czajkowski of Perry, Michigan; grandchildren, Jonathan Andrew Norelli and his wife, Lauren Hawley Norelli, of New York City, Margaret Howell Norelli of Charlotte, North Carolina and Lee Elizabeth Norelli, currently a student at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

The family plans a memorial service in Charlotte at a later date, to be followed by a service at Arlington National Cemetery, where Mrs. Norelli will join her husband in the Columbarium Park.
