GEORGE GASSER
George Frederick Gasser died at his home in Chariton, April 26, 1894, in the fifty-fourth year of his age, of hemorrhage of the brain. Deceased was born in Bahlingen, Baden, Germany, May 7, 1840. He migrated to America in 1857 and after living a few years in Quincy, Illinois, he moved to this city about 1863.
On Nov. 19, 1865, he was united in marriage to Miss Georgiana Schrader (Schroeder) in Marion county, this state. Nine children have blessed this union, seven of whom are still living.
The eldest, George F., resides in Pocatello, Idaho, and the second son, Charles H., in Omaha, Nebraska. The remaining children live in Chariton and are as follows: Ernest F., Nellie Blanche, Carrie D., Emmett William and Roland. There are also one living brother, Henry Gasser, who resides in Crete, Nebraska, and a half sister, Mrs. Anna Myers, who lives in St. Louis, Missouri.
The deceased was confirmed in the Lutheran church where he held his membership until he was united with the Presbyterian church of Chariton, Dec. 3, 1888.
He was a member of two secret orders, the I.O.O.F. and Knights of Pythias, and the funeral obsequies, which occurred at his late home Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, were held under the auspices of these organizations, Rev. W. C. Atwood conducting the services.
Mr. Gasser had been a resident of Chariton for thirty years and the beautiful flowers which surrounded the casket were loving tokens from his many friends and bore testimony to the high esteem and regard in which he was held by the people of this community. The bereaved wife and children have the heartfelt sympathy of the citizens of Chariton.
