RCMP Sergeant Burkholder was shot while answering a call to a domestic dispute in Nova Scotia. One of three other officers who went as back-up shot and killed Sergeant Burkholder's killer. Sergeant Burkholder was very well liked and respected in the community.

Sergeant Burkholder was a 29 year veteran of the force.

Sergeant Burkholder is survived by his wife and two daughters.
