Brigadier General George K Hunter, retired cavalryman and veteran of campaigns in Cuba and the Philippines, died today.
Gen Hunter had retired in 1918 but was recalled to active duty and assigned to command Jefferson Barracks, Missouri from Feb 1918 to July 1919. He was wounded in the attack on San Juan Hill and was cited for gallantry in action against the Spanish forces at Santiago, Cub July 2, 1898.
A native of Ohio, he graduated from West Point Military Academy in 1877. His daughter, Mrs Robert Sterrett, and a son, Col George B Hunter of the Army War College, survive.
