He was a former Commander of US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 14-9 in Putnam County, Florida and operated the Georgetown Marina. He was a US Army Aviator (UH1 helicopter pilot) with prior service in the US Air Force. During his tour in Vietnam, he was severely wounded in the leg and barely avoided amputation.

Gerald Fredrick Genaw, 59, died Thursday, December 4, 1997.
He was one of the owners of Camp Henry Resort and Marina in Georgetown. He was born in Detroit, Mich., and came to Georgetown 11 years ago from Orlando. His life was devoted to his country and community. At the age of 19 he enlisted in the Air Force, and began his service career as a missile electronics technician. Later he transferred to the Army and served during the Vietnam Conflict as a helicopter pilot and a medical evacuation pilot. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal; the Air Medal with 13 Oak Leaf Clusters and also the Purple Heart. Following his discharge, Jerry continued serving his country through community service with fire departments and the Sheriff's Auxiliary in Orange County. Fla. He is best known for his selfless devotion to the Civil Air Patrol and Coast Guard Auxiliary. He is one of the few recipients of the Civil Air Patrol Bronze Medal of Valor. He was also a ham radio operator licensed as WB4GRM. He was continuously active with radio emergency services during natural disasters and other times of emergency.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Charles and Adele Charlotte Genaw.
He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Lynn Turnage of Baltimore, Md. and Kathy Ann Genaw-Gorski of Chicago, Ill.; son, David Lawrence Genaw of Orlando; brother, Ronald Genaw of Port Charlotte, Fla.; sister, Bonnie Falzon of St. Claire Shores, Mich.; three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held today, 11:30 a.m. at Camp Henry in Georgetown with the Civil Air Patrol Chaplain officiating. His ashes will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery.
