Richard served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-17 (#44-8303), 4th Bomber Squadron, 34th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided at 140 Seville Drive, Irondequoit, Monroe County, New York prior to the war.

Richard was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 was attacked and crashed near Aachen, Germany during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Service # O-820975

His brother, 1st Lt. George W. Eike, was also "Killed In Action" during the war and he is interred next (see photo on the right) to him in Arlington.

The pilot of this B-17, 2nd Lt. Seraphin E. Schwartz, was also from Rochester, Monroe County, New York. (see below) Sitting next to each other ... I assume they had a lot of things to discuss about back home.
