Obituary

On Saturday, The 9th of July, 1988, Rosa Lee Manor Gillis answered the call of her Maker and entered into eternal rest while a patient at a Fort Worth Hospital.Rosa Lee was a native of Austin, Texas and daughter of the late Sam Manor and Ella Shields Manor. She received her formal education at Austin and confessed a hope in Christ and united with the Baptist Church near her home.Following her schooling, Rosa Lee moved to Dallas, Texas and settled. Her first marriage was to Milton Alexander February 14,1924 Dallas, Texas. Her 2nd marriage to Mr. Birk Gillis and Mr. Gillis preceded her in death April 18, 1973.

Over a half century ago, Rosa Lee united with Saint John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. C. C. Harper during his pastorate there. She has retained her membership at Saint John until her demise.
Mrs. Gillis was employed at the Passenger Terminal of Southwestern Greyhound Bus Lines in Downtown Dallas for over 15 years.

In 1973 following the death of her husband, Mrs. Gillis moved to Fort Worth to live with her daughter. While in Fort Worth, Mrs. Gillis continued to support her home church at Saint John in Dallas but worshipped with her daughter at Fort Worth Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her two daughters, Mmes. Doris Johnson of Oakland, California and Ernestine Wagoner of Fort Worth; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one aunt, Mrs. Janie Burleson of Austin, Texas; several generations of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a vast number of friends.
