Charter member of Center Baptist Church

Believed to have been the oldest resident of Guernsey county, Mrs. Judea Fulton, aged 102 years died Saturday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock at the family home, Cambridge Route 2, Claysville road, near Frazier's Crossing, following an illness of only one week of disease incident to advanced age.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hill, and was born May 7. 1830, one half mile east of Center, and was one of a family of eight children, all of whom are deceased. Her remarkable longevity was due to a simple life of service and devotion to others. As far as is known Mrs. Fulton was never outside of Guernsey county.
Her husband, Marcus Fulton, died 34 years ago and since that time she had resided with a niece, Mrs Mary E. Fulton. Until her death she had excellent eyesight and was able to spend many hours reading newspapers and periodicals. She was slightly deaf, however, and for that reason did not converse a great deal during recent years. Some of her relatives say she was 106 years of age, but because birth records were not kept when she was born, her exact age is not known. According to a record secured several years ago, however, she was born in 1830. She was kindly and unselfish and was greatly devoted to her step-children, three of whom survive, Alex Fulton, of near Marion; J.C. Fulton, of Cambridge, and Mrs. Maywood Miller, also of Cambridge.
Mrs. Fulton's father came to Guernsey county from Maryland and settled on a homestead of 160 acres near Center. The land on which the Center Baptist church and cemetery are now located was donated by Mr. Hill. Mrs. Fulton was a charter member of the church which celebrated its 100th anniversary last week.
In addition to her step-children, she is survived by many nieces and nephews. In the latter years of her life relatives took excellent care of her, attending her wants and showing her with affection. She was able to be about until last Tuesday when her infirmities made her bedfast. Mrs. Fulton exceeded in age the late John M. Gardner, who was 97 years old at the time of his death last year, and was then the oldest man of Guernsey count, by at least five years and possibly nine years.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at the home conducted by Rev. John F. McLeod, pastor of the Old Cambridge Baptist church. Interment was made at the Center Baptist church cemetery.
