John Jacob Robinson, 50, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 9, of an apparent heart attack.
Apparently knowing that he was about to black out, Mr. Robinson drove his car from Main Street into the driveway of Bob Raney's Service Station Saturday afternoon and attempted to push the gear lever in park. It hit reverse and the vehicle backed across the street into a utility pole.
Connie Willhite, who was servicing Mrs. Paul Foster's automobile, and Mrs. Paul Foster raced to Mr. Robinson's aid, gently removing him from his car. He was taken to Mercy Hospital and then transferred to Baptist Memorial in Memphis where he died Saturday night.
Mr. Robinson was an area manager for the Sun Oil Co. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. He was recently installed for his third consecutive term as president of the Brinkley Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Jean Pugh Robinson; a son, Mike Robinson of Texarkana; his father, Earl Robinson of Holly Grove and two grandchildren
Funeral for Mr. Robinson was held Monday afternoon at Bob Neal and sons Funeral Chapel with Rudolph Davis, officiating.
