Her son Melville became a doctor and was practicing medicine in Lenora. His wife died in 1894 and it appears his mother came to live with him, possibly to care for his two sons. Doctor Drown died in 1899.
On August 6, 1913, Susannah became a resident at the Mother Bickerdyke Home at Ellsworth, Kansas. It was at that location that she died just 12 days later. Her body was shipped to Lenora for burial in the East cemetery with her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by Reverend Flowers at the Methodist Church.
She was survived by her daughter, Alma Williams, of Portland, Oregon; and three brothers, J. S. Hileman of Edna, Kansas; M. D. Hileman of Baxter Springs, Kansas; and D. O. Hileman of Oswego, Kansas.
