John served as a Private First Class, 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Prince George's County, Maryland and was a member of the Maryland National Guard prior to the war.

John's Maryland National Guard was inducted into full time military service on February 3, 1941, prior to the war, from Hyattsville, Maryland. He noted, at that time, as being born in 1918, as being employed as a Plumber and also as Single, without dependents.

John was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.
