W. W. Dews is mentioned as a Confederate soldier in the Americus Times Recorder newspaper, Oct 4, 1917 issue, page 7. He also has a CSA pension app on line in the GA archives virtual vault. He gives date of birth as 28 April 1835. He enlisted in Company C of the 25th GA vols in January 1862 in Va. He was captured while on a salt run for the troops and held until his escape.
