Thomas Keith Propst, 76, of Merino, died Thursday, Feb. 20, in Morgan County. Visitation will
be Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Services will Thursday, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m. in the Dorothy J. Corsberg Theater at Northeastern Junior College. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Riverside Cemetary, with a memorial service and reception starting at 2 p.m. at the NJC Student Center Ballroom.
Mr. Probst was born March 14, 1926, to Lewis and Grace Propst at the family ranch in Merino. The Propsts' ancestors homestead the Bar 3 Ranch near Merino in 1876. After graduating from Merino
High School, he entered Colorado College on active duty in the Navy He was discharged without ever leaving Colorado.
Mr. Propst then enrolled at Colorado State University joining the Army ROTC. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in animal pro duction and a second lieutenant commission in the Army Reserves.
Less than two years after returning to the ranch, he was called to active duty in Korea. He received the Bronze Star following the Battle of Old Baldy with the 37th Field Artillery Battalion. He married Nell Brown on Oct. 7, 1949.
He joined the Logan County Farm Bureau in 1950, serving as secretary and president. He was a member of the Colorado Farm Bureau and was elected president in 1974, serving until 1992.
Mr. Propst also was a member of the American Farm Bureau Federation, served as president of the Colorado Farm Bureau Insurance Company, and on the board of Western Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company. He was a member of Mountain States Beet Growers, Groundwater Appropriators of the South Platte (GASP), the Colorado Historical Society, Logan County Historical Society and was one of the founding members of the Great Western Beef Expo.
He is survived by wife Nell; daughters Kim Propst, Bellevue, Wash., and Holly Propst, Golden; Sons Joel Propst, Brighton, and Koger Propst, Evergreen; and 15 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a scholarship fund being established in Mr. Propst's name. The scholarship fund will assist a graduating Northeastern Junior College stu dent in putsuing agricultural- related studies at Colorado State University.
