On June 3, 1955, he was united in marriage with Macie "Fern" Wilson and to this union was born two sons, who survive. Fern preceded him in death on October 6, 1997.

Boyd proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps for two years. He was a dedicated and loyal soldier, and proud of his country.

Boyd was a hard worker. He owned and operated Bettes Brothers Conoco, along with his brother Junior for more then twenty years. He was also employed as a mechanic for Civil Service at Ft. Leonard Wood. He was respected in the community and by his co-workers for his attention to detail and strong work ethic.

Boyd was a member of the Lebanon Ameateur Radio Club and a very active participant. He administered the tests to become an operator and helped new members become licensed.

He enjoyed being outdoors, and mowing his lawn was very peaceful and fulfilling for him. However, the times spent with his family, especially his children and grandchildren, were his most treasured.

Boyd is survived by two sons, Duane Bettes and his wife Paula of Woodbridge, VA and Jerry Bettes and his wife Lela of Falcon, MO; three grandchildren, Aaron Bettes and his wife Mairel, Angela Combest and Justin Bettes; six great-grandchildren, Jayson, Ethan, Eli, Tyler, Lincoln and A.J.
