Velma Jean Barnard Hughes, 86, Phoenix, formerly of Independence, Mo, died on Feb. 18, 2004.
Mrs. Hughes was born in Independence on Feb. 23, 1917. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Russell Hughes.
Her survivors include her children and their spouses, Michael and Bobbi Hughes, Patty and Dave Baker and Cathy and Mike Francis, all of Phonix; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, nadine Van Hook, Independence, and Marion Conyers, La Crosse, Wis.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Hansen Chapel, 8314 N 7th St, Phoenix. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 3238 N 16th St., Phoenix, Az.
