He was the Retired Executive Director of the Fort Smith Housing Authority, a member of Midland Heights United Methodist Church, the Sebastian Masonic Lodge #706, Amrita Grotto, a 32nd Degree Mason, former Board Member of the Fort Smith Girl's Shelter, active in the Western Arkansas Council of the Boy Scotts, and a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict in the Army Medical Corp.
He is survived by his wife Glenna of the Home; one daughter, Pam and husband Greg Graham of Fort Smith; one son, David Brooks Hicks and wife Jan of Fort Smith; five grandchildren; Amy Cusick, Ashley Gary, Christopher Hicks, Amber Smith, and David Brock; and two great grandchildren, Graham Cusick and Alexis Smith; and soon to be born, Bailey Smith.
He was preceded in death by one daughter Lisa Suzanne Brock; two sisters, Norma Alexander and Sybil Erwin; and one brother, Oscar Hicks.
Funeral service was March 8, 2010 at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the U.S. National Cemetery all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jack Helms, David Alexander, Greg Schmitt, Chris Gary, Ron Osborne, and Sonny Dedmond.
Honorary Pallbearers were Roy Milligan, Rufus Joyce, Derek Thomas, John Goetz, Gerald Copper, and Jack Erwin.
