Bruce William Sawyer, 57, of Copperas Cove, Texas, passed away Feb. 26, 2010. He was born April 12, 1952, in Tokyo, Japan, and was a 46-year resident of Nevada. He was a truck driver and longtime member of the Teamsters Union Local 163, retiring after 35 years in 2007. Bruce had lived in Las Vegas since 1964 and attended high school at Southern Nevada Vocational Technical Center. He served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1973, with one combat tour in Vietnam. Bruce was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1753, in Las Vegas. At the time of his death, Bruce was divorced.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Bruce is survived by his mother, Misao Sawyer of Las Vegas; son, Timothy Sawyer and daughter-in-law, Betty Sawyer of Copperas Cove; stepdaughters, Crystal Pirtle and Melissa Watts; and stepson, William Watts, all of Las Vegas; and 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Jack and Errol Sawyer of Las Vegas, and Fred Sawyer of Montgomery, Ill.; and sister, Pat Purcell of Humble, Texas.

The family will have a memorial/fellowship at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at the V.F.W. Post 8577, 1506 Veterans Ave., Copperas Cove, TX 76522.

There will be a private family funeral Sunday, March 14, in Galveston, Texas, for scattering his remains at sea.
