Enlisted 1 Sept 1861, made Captain of Co. "C" Locke's Reg't. Texas Volunteer's, 10 Sept 1861.

The 10th was organized with about 900 men during the late summer of 1861 at Goose Lake, about 10 miles north east of Wills Point, Van Zandt Co., Tx. by Col. M. F. Locke. Many of its members were recruited in the towns of Quitman and Tyler, and from the Counties of Upshur, Rusk and Cherokee.
