During his long career as a retail merchant, he was an active member of the National Brand Names Foundation. In 1972, he received the Retailer of the Year award for clothing from that organization.
Kimble was a member of the Junior Advisory Board of the National Bank of Commerce in Mississippi; a lifetime member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, having served as Chairman; a charter member and first president of the local Civitan Club; a charter member of the local Gideons’ Camp; a former member of the American Red Cross board, having served as chair; and was active in Downtown Main Street Columbus, having also served as chairman of that organization.
Mr. Crossley was active in gospel music all of his life and was inducted in the Lamar County Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1992. He was involved in various church and gospel music activities over the years and at the time of his death was a member of the Oldtimers Quartet. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board, sang in Sanctuary choir, and was a member of Dr. Platt’s Sunday School class.
Pallbearers were Atwell Andrews, John Harmon, R. F. Rector, Fred Bell, Ed Sprouse, and Henry Morgan. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Salvation Army Board, the local Civitan Club, the Columbus North Gideon Camp, the NBC Advisory Board, the Deacon Board of First Baptist Church, members of Dr. Platt’s Sunday School Class, Hovie Lister, James Blackwood, Dr. Herschel Collins, Lendley Boyd, Dr. Doyle Sumrall, and Dr. John Cox.
