"Born in 1719. Probable he married in Pennsylvania or New York, while pursuing his trade and for this reason the name of his wife and date of his marriage has not been found. Miss Leavitt in her "Blair Families in New England" only mentions four children as descendants of James. I have located two others and claim that Samuel was also one, as all facts point that way. Robert at the time of his death had 87 grandchildren, the "Blair Families" accounts for 80 including the four mentioned, leaving seven unaccounted for, James therefore must have had eleven children."
[Descendants of Samuel, Sr. and Mary Eddy Blair, with notes on some allied families, by Unknown family member, c.1928]

"JAMES[2] BLAIR, son of Robert[1] and Isabella (Rankin) Blair, was a mill wright, and owned a large farm in Rutland, Mass. December 26, 1746, he bought of Mr. Jonas Clark of Boston, ninety acres in Rutland [Worcester Co., Massachusetts], lying on Turkey Hill Pond; in 1764 he received land in the cedar swamp [adjacent to that which he owned.] Mr. Reed, in the history of Rutland, writes: "Lieutenant James Blair was a useful and active citizen during and after the war.: His name is on the town book as one of the alarm men in 1776. His wife's name has not appeared, but the town records seem to show that he had children:
1. Isabel, who married, June 23, 1768, Patrick Watson
2. Mary, who married, November 2, 1789, Samuel McClanathan, of Palmer, Mass.
3. John, who married (intention) December 23, 1780, Ann Bothwell.
4. Hugh, who married, November 7, 1773, Jane McClanathan, of Charlemont, Mass."
