Obituary

Caroline Stratton was born September 4, 1833, at Atlantic City, NJ, and died at Aurora, IL, August 7, 1911, and in less than a month would have been 78 years of age. She was the sixth child of Mr. and Mrs. James Stratton. On September 9, 1852, she was united in marriage to James D. Erwin and resided in Philadelphia until 1863 when she removed to Newark, moving from there several years later to Hartford, MI. For the past twenty years, Sandwich has been her home. Early last spring she removed to Aurora, making her home with her son, L. R. Erwin. Mrs. Erwin has been in failing health few some time and during the past six weeks has been confined to her bed, suffering intensely, death awning as a welcome release. She was very patient and uncomplaining in her affliction and often talked of the better life to come and expressed her faith in "Him who doeth all things well." In 1895 she united with the Baptist Churdi of this city, of which she was a member at the time of her death. She is survived by her husband, James D. Erwin and six sons, as follows: Levi and Benjamin, of Aurora, William, of Sandwich, Charles of Chicago, Howard, of Soopersville, MI, and George Grand Rapids, MI. There is also left a brother, Mr. James Stratton, of Morgan Park, IL. The funeral services were held at the home of her son, William Erwin on Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. T. P. Brannum. The interment was at the Newark-Millington Cemetery.
