William Arthur Godwin, son of Charlie and Mattie Godwin and brother of Ethel and Alvy, was born in Jasper and grew up in White Springs, Hamilton County, Florida. He lived in Waccasassa, and his funeral rites were held at Union Baptist Church in Newberry. He was the owner-operator of Dixie Sheetmetal Works of Miami and a 32nd degree Mason. His wife, Eliose Berry Godwin, survived him by five years, and is buried beside him at Union Baptist Cemetery. His 1987 obituary also lists as survivors his daughter Jeannine and two granddaughters.
