Zechariah Wilson Cole married Sarah Jane Harris on 2 September 1869 at Fannin County, Georgia. The family moved to Texas in 1880 settling first at Erath County until 1897 when they moved to Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma.

Zachariah Wilson Cole moved to Young County settling in the Proffitt community in 1906 expecting to find a dry and healthy climate. Mr. Cole settled in a comfortable home in northeastern corner of Proffitt and began buying large parcels of farming lad in the valley bordered by Elm Crrek on the south and the Brazos River on the north. He member of the Belknap Masonic Lodge. Mr. Cole was a member of the Masons for 40 years. He was a 33rd degree Mason and the Masonic Lodge officiated his graveside services. He and his wife were devoted members of the Baptist church which he joined early in life. It was not his policy to waver on moral questions. He always came out promptly and boldly for the cause of right. Proffitt and Young County have lost a valuable citizen. He was a member of the school board of Proffitt School. Mr. and Mrs. Cole were the parents of nine children.
