JACOB SAILOR. a farmer and stock raiser, section 29, Blue Earth City township, Faribault county, Minnesota, is the second son and third child of the venerable Moses Sailor, of whom prominent mention is made in this volume. He was born in Elkhart county, Indiana, April 14, 1836, He was reared on his father‘s frontier farm in that State. In 1854 he came west with his parents to Iowa, and in 1855 to Faribault county, Minnesota. He assisted his father in opening up the new farm upon which they located, and remained at home until he attained his majority. Then he worked out and obtained money with which to pre-empt 160 acres of Government land where he now resides. To this tract he subsequently added until now his farm comprises 225 acres, which he has under a high state of cultivation and well improved with good buildings and various conveniences. Indeed the improvements on his farm are among the best in the county. His barn is 38 x 65 feet; granary, 16 x 32 feet; and his windmill is used both for pumping water and for grinding feed for stock. Mr. Sailor was first married June 11, 1858, to Miss Sarah Schidiler, a native of Athens county, Ohio, and a daugher of Joshua Schidiler, who was born in Indiana. She died May 18, 1871, leaving a family of four children, namely: Hattie, who became the wife of J. B. Maginnis, and died leaving two children, Clemmen and Sidney; Clement, a resident of Montana; Clinton, who married Stella Woolery and has two children, Howard and Madge; and Prudence, wife of Fred Jackson, has one child, Anna. April 23, 1875, Mr. Sailor married Amelia Behre, a native of Wisconsin and a daughter of William Behre, who came to this country from Prussia and is now a resident of Blue Earth City township. By his present wife Mr. Sailor has two children, —Charlotta and Maynard. He is truly a self-made man, having by his own industry and good management accumulated a nice property. Politically, he is a Democrat. Mrs. Sailor is a member of the Baptist church.
