Phyllis Kingsbury, 90, of Burney passed away on February 19, 2010 surrounded by her family.
Phyllis was born on September 19, 1919 in Sheridan, Montana to Charles and Stella James.

She graduated form high school in Susanville, CA and moved to San Francisco to attend beauty school. After beauty school she moved to Alaska and worked in various canneries and beauty shops, not to mention Ft. Richardson Army Base. Phyllis traveled frequently and enjoyed countless adventures including a 300-mile hike between Anchorage and Fairbanks and was one of the first women to ever kayak the Yukon River.

At the end of WWII Phyllis returned to California where she met Gerald "Tink" Kingsbury. The two were married on Valentine's Day in 1948. The couple settled in Burney, CA where they raised their four children: Jerry, Chuck, Pam and Danny. While raising her family Phyllis worked in the cafeteria at Mt. Burney Elementary.

Once her children were raised Phyllis took pleasure in baking, gardening and most of all spending time with her grand and great grandchildren. Phyllis especially enjoyed playing "Old Maid" with her grandchildren. She took pride in her gardening, which encouraged ardent competitions with her sons. Phyllis also cherished friends stopping by on Halloween for her infamous homemade popcorn balls.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Tink, and leaves behind her four children, Jerry of Anderson, Chuck and his wife Robbie of Burney, Pam of Burney and Danny of Anderson. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Phyllis was truly a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many and will be missed dearly.
