Mr. Alger was born May 7, 1926 in Shenandoah.
He worked as a truck driver with the Virginia Department of Transportation for 30 years. He was a member of Leake's Chapel Church of the Brethren.
On March 17, 1947, he married the former Alda Mae Dovel; she survives. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
The Revs. Eric Croft and Kenneth Graff will conduct the funeral at 2 p. m. Sunday at Leake's Chapel Cemetery.
The body will be taken Saturday morning to the church, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p. m. Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Leake's Chapel church of the Brethren.
