Robert McFeron died in Linn County, Oregon, on 29 August 1889.
In May 1861, he had organized the "Turkey Creek Company" (more formally Company A, First Regiment) of the Carroll County, Missouri, Home Guard Volunteers, which he led as captain until injured in a fall from his horse on October 1, 1861. He was later unable to prove his Civil War service and was denied an invalid pension.
