Gone but not Forgotten: Death knocked at the door of the residence of James Mayfield of this city on the 18th, and took from him is beloved wife, Martha J. Mayfield, aged 49 years, after a suffering of 7 weeks. She bore her suffering with Christian patience, and was willing to leave this world of pain and live in the land of peace and happiness. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, of which she lived a consistent member until her death. Sad, indeed, were the hearts of the witnesses at her bedside while her life ebbed away, but how sweet it is when we must give up one so dear to us, to rely upon the promise of God and to realize that death is only her gain and that we can meet her, "On the other shore where parting is no more.
