He was the husband of Mary Elizabeth Butler, the daughter of Minor Butler and Emily Preston. At the time of the 1880 Census of Short Creek, Grayson County, Kentucky, the Abraham VanMeter Conklin family consisted of: A. V., a farmer, age 34; his wife, Mary E., age 22; and their children: Ella, age 3 and son Minor E., age 9 months, who was named for his maternal grandfather.
Abraham VanMeter Conklin died at the age of 60 years, 10 months and 9 days on December 15, 1906. He was buried in the Hanging Rock Church Cemetery off Highway #259 in Leitchfield, Grayson County, Kentucky. His wife Mary joined him there after her death 41 years later at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 22 days on December 2, 1947.
