RINGGOLD, GA -- Carl Brown, 84, formerly of Lexington, NC, died Thursday, February 25, 2010 at his home.

He was a devoted, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family. Carl was a member and former deacon of Brainerd Baptist Church, as well as Erlanger Baptist Church in Lexington, NC.

He retired from Dixie Yarns in 1992, following 24 years of service in the Industrial Engineering Dept. Prior to joining Dixie Yarns, he worked for Erlanger Mills in Lexington, NC.

He was a former member and President of The Lions' Club of Lexington, NC. Carl served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944-1946.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.H. Brown and Clara Haynes Brown; his siblings, Joe T. Brown, Stuart R. Brown and Mina Swicegood, all of Lexington, NC and W.H. Brown Jr., of Gastonia, NC.

Carl is survived by his wife of 65 years, Artie M. Brown; his daughters, Susan Wall, of Birmingham, AL, Martha "Marty" McCarver, of Chattanooga, TN, and Joan Smith, of Powder Springs, GA; grandchildren, Carla McIntyre, Chad Smith, Laurissa Stone, Wendy Nace, Betsy Wall, Jamie Starr, Jennifer Stone, Ryan Smith, and Lauren Smith; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Flood, Austin Starr, Hannah and Josh McIntyre.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Moore officiating.

Private burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery on Monday.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home.
