She was born May 2, 1934 in Henderson, Arkansas to Ira Richard and Iva Mae (Wheat) Hicks.
She married John Benjamin Friend on February 23, 1973 in Yellville AR.
Ms. Friend was a bookkeeper and office manager over a 40 year career. She attended Draughn's business college in Springfield, Missouri. She worked in many business' including her Father's business Hicks and Ross Construction and then she spent over 20 years at Guy King and Sons from where she retired in 1997. She moved to Fayetteville in 2005 to be near her son John and wife Courtney.
Ms. Friend was an active member of the community serving many years in the Democratic Party of Baxter County. She was the first female appointed to the Baxter County Election commission where she served well over 20 years. She was a charter member of the local TOPS organization and a member of First Baptist Church in Mtn. Home.
Ms. Friend is survived by a son John Richard and wife Courtney DeFelice Friend of Fayetteville, AR, one sister Doris Garton and husband Wren of Kansas City, Mo and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
She was preceeded in death by her husband John Benjamin Friend, her parents and a brother Melvin JC Hicks.
Funeral services were at the Roller Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Douglas Cemetery.
