She was the daughter of Dr Farquhard Campbell Smith and Sarah Elizabeth Sanders.∼Ida Ross went by the name of Ross. She was born at 216 South Fourth Street in Smithfield in the home of her grandmother, Sarah (Campbell) Sanders Miller. She died in the home of her son, Farquhard Smith Best in Brevard. Ross was the 2nd wife of attorney Lee Jackson Best, his first wife, Florence Vestal, having died in 1902.

A funeral service was conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock at Divine Stret Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 42 years. The Rev. B. D. Critcher officiated. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.,
Surviving are three sons, Farquhard S. Best of Brevard and Lee James Best of Dunn and Washington, D. C., and Coll Hinton Best of Detroit, Mich."
