The following information is from W. T. Lemons, Soldier's Application for a Pension, # 40995, Hill County, Texas, filed December 6, 1924, and approved June 25, 1925:

Private, Company H, 26th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry, CSA

William T. "Will" or "Bill" Lemons was born in Smith County, Tennessee. He volunteered and joined Company H, 26th Mississippi Regiment on June 30, 1861, and mustered in at Iuka, Mississippi, on August 16, 1861. He was temporarily attached to the 32nd Regiment, Mississippi Infantry, and was appointed Sergeant in September 1863. He was elected 3rd Lieutenant of Company C, Moreland's Regiment, Alabama Cavalry, on January 12, 1864, at Burnsville, Mississippi. He was granted leave of absence by the Surgeon on June 16, 1864. He moved to Texas and to Hill County about 1878. W. T. Lemons of Itasca died on Tuesday, June 15, 1926, at Itasca, and was buried in Itasca City Cemetery the following day.
