Harvey Nicholas Allen died in the "War to end all Wars", WWI. A plaque to honor Cleveland Countians who gave their lives is mounted on the west side of our historic courthouse in the center of the county seat of Shelby.

At the time of his enlistment he was a single farmer in the Lattimore area. Mr. Allen was of medium height and build with blue eyes and light hair.

I believe Mr. Allen was a son Of John W & Amanda Allen who appeared on the Cleveland County, NC Federal Census in 1910. At the time they were living in Township #2.
