Barnett Philip Larimore moved with his parents, brother, and sisters in a covered wagon to Johnson County, Texas in 1874, and then in January 1878, the family moved to Young County. When the family moved to Young County, his father purchased land four miles north of the present town of Newcastle. He and his sons picked up bones off the prairie and hauled them by wagon to Wichita Falls to be used as fertilizer to help pay for the land. The purchase price of the land was $1.50."
He was engaged as a farmer most of his life. The Larimore oil pool was discovered on his land in 1930 and was the largest shallow oil reservoir in the northern part of the county.
