Born Nov. 6, 1941 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Francis Harry "Snook" and Evelyn Lorraine Hartman Walsh. On July 29, 1983 she married Carl D. Carman in Burlington.
Mrs. Carman worked at Champion Spark Plug as a production operator for 34 years retiring in 2001. She graduated as valedictorian from Huron High School in Oakvile in 1959. She was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington and served on the Church Parish Council. She belonged to UAW Local 1237 serving as the Union Benefits Representative. She was a member of Area Retirees, Eagles Club, Mount Pleasant Moose Lodge, Burlington Gym and the 5:02 Girls Club. She enjoyed cooking and writing.
Survivors include her husband; her mother of Burlington; two daughters, Robin Smith of Oquawka, Ill., and Amy Mattoon of Burlington; four sons, Perry Rettig of Las Vegas, Nev., and robert Rettig, Tony Rettig and Scott Carman, all of Burlington; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Romajean Messer of Mount Pleasant, Gloria Gooch of Tucson, Ariz., and Lyn Salisbury and Lori Steward, both of Burlington; nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home in Burlington where family will receive friends following a 4 p.m. rosary service until 7 p.m.
The mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Carman will be 10 a.m. Monday at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington with the Rev. Patrick J. Hilgendorf officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
