Mrs. Iris Lewis Godwin McGhin, 81, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday evening, November 25, 2006.
A native of Pierce County, she had lived in Folkston for twenty years before moving to Baptist Village where she had lived for the last five years. She was a homemaker and will also be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. McGhin was a member of the Sweat Memorial Baptist Church but was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Folkston.
She was a daughter of the late Dawson L. & Ethel Groover Lewis and was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank McGhin; a son, Ronnie J. Godwin, who passed away in 1986; two sisters, Bill Aldridge and Gladys Smiley; and three brothers, Earlish Lewis, Rev. Kenneth Lewis and James Lewis.
Survivors are two daughters and a son-n-law, Carol Wetherington of Blackshear and Mary Lou & Doyle Lewis of Folkston; two sons & daughters-n-law, Mike & Kay Godwin of Blackshear and James & Martha McGhin of St. Marys; a daughter-n-law, Pat Godwin of Peachtree City; 12 grandchildren, Sherri Robson, Butch Wetherington, Cindy Smith, Chip Godwin, Joey Godwin, Tracy Fuqua, Melody Pullin, James McGhin, Jim McGhin, Modesta Blansett, Marty McGhin and Shawn Godwin; a number of great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. McGhin will be held Tuesday morning, November 28, 2006, at 11:00 o'clock from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel.
Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs. McGhin will be held Monday evening from 6:30 until 8:30 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sweat Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 510 W. Blackshear Ave., Waycross, GA 31501.
