JOHN EARL RUGG, 88, of 701 Oaknoll Drive, died today at his home.

The funeral will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Webster, Iowa United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roy Hoover officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Sigourney. A Masonic service will be Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in South English.

Mr. Rugg was born October 17, 1886, near Washington, Iowa, son of Fred and Martha Wallace Rugg.

He married Etta Axmear June 18 1913 near Keswick. She died in 1966.

Mr. Rugg lived his early years in Iowa and Kansas, moved to Oregon where he graduated from high school and in 1909 returned to Iowa. He farmed in the North English, Webster and Keswick area before retiring. He moved to Iowa City three years ago.

He was a member of Webb Masonic Lodge No. 182 at Sigourney.

Surviving are two daughters Mrs. John (Ellen) Eisma of Iowa City and Mrs. Berwyn (Hazel) Moen of St. Joseph, Missouri, three sons, John of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Fred of Mesa, Arizona, and Lloyd of Sigourney; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A brother and a grandchild also died earlier.
