SHORT, CALVIN W. - The community was shocked & grieved this week to learn of the death of Calvin W. Short, 44, an employee of the American Viscose Corp. on Monday evening (02 Dec 1957) of this week.

Mr. Short, who with his family had been spending the day in Washington, D. C. was en route home when he became ill. His wife stopped the car on the Blue Ridge Mountain between Sperryville and Luray and there Mr. Short died before an ambulance could be summoned.

Last rites will take place today (Thursday).

A son of Mrs. Mollie Gochenour of near Luray and the late Samuel Short, he was born in Page County on March 26, 1913.

Mr. Short was employed at the American Viscose Corp. in Front Royal and had been with Viscose since the Front Royal plant was opened. He was a member of the Antioch Christian Church.

He was extremely popular and well liked by his many friends and fellow workers and his untimely death is sadly mourned by all who knew him.

His wife, the former Miss Geneva Seal survives with four children, Glenwood W. Short of the U. S. Marines of Camp LeJeune, N. C., Wayne and twins Ronnie Blue and Bonnie Bell all at home.

Also surviving are two brothers, Garland Short of Luray and Ira Short of Alexandria and five sisters, Mrs. Iva Seal and Mrs. Elva Short of Hagerstown, Md., Mrs. Della Rexrode of Alexandria, Mrs. Rita Hawkins and Miss Geneva Short of Luray. One sister and one brother are deceased.
