Leo A. Munson, our gentle, loyal, and kind father left this mortal life on Friday, March 17, 1995, at his home.
He was born December 18, 1916 in Huntington, Utah, the ninth child of Peter and Kathryn Gilman Monsen. He grew up in Carbon and Emery Counties, graduating from Carbon County High School in 1936. During the late 1930's he worked in the coal mines in Huntington, Utah, to finance his schooling at Brigham Young University.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, beginning January 1941. In the summer of 1943, he participated in the Aleutian Island Battles at Attu and Kiska, Alaska. He was honorably discharged as a Warrant Officer in August 1945.
In 1945 he moved to Ogden where he met his wife, Emma Walker. They were married on October 12, 1946. Over the next 46 years, they raised their family and shared a happy life. Emma passed away October 22, 1992, leaving a great void in Leo's life.
In 1951, he began 22 years of service at Hill Air Force Base in the accounting, finance and comptroller's office. He retired from Civil Service in December 1973.
Our father will be remembered for his keen mind, quick wit, and unconditional love. His example will always be our legacy. He will be deeply missed by his four children: Kevin Munson (Jody), Ogden; Laurel Bain (Walt), Farmington; LeeAnn Premo (Ray), Ogden; Lynn Munson, Ogden. Leo found his greatest enjoyment in his 11 grandchildren: Chad Brann, Andrea Brann, Erin Bain, Krysten Beesley, Tyler Munson, Melissa Beesley, Heather Munson, Janet Bain Epperson, Pam Bain Fill, David Bain, Curtis Bain, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Verna Parry and Vera Espinoza, both of Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 23rd, at 1 p.m. at the Ogden 55th Ward Chapel, 1401 Country Hills Drive, with Bishop Fred Ulrich, Jr. officiating. Friends may call at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday at the Ward Chapel from noon to 12:45 p.m. Interment: Lindquist's Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch.
