Pope Norris Lott, 82, will be Buried at 2 o'clock This Afternoon
Johnston, SC, March 11-Pope Norris Lott, 82, father of Supt Stanton N Lott, of the Johnston High School, and one of the oldest and most outstanding residents of this community, died at his residence here this morning at 3:30 o'clock after an illness of several weeks.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Johnston Baptist church, the Rev BE Ward officiating. Interment will be in Mount of Olives Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Hugh Kolb, Frank Smoak, JW Cos, Dr JA Dobey, Dr JG Halford and B Edwards.
Honorary pallbearers will be PD Witt, EL Reames, Sr, Dr T K Murphy MD Lyon, McQueen Quattlebaum, Dr Rene Hurlong, CF Simon and DE Simon.
Mr Lott was the oldest original resident of this community, and was a leader in civic and religious affairs for many years.
He was a pioneer in modern agricultural methods in this section of the state, and for 20 years held the position of agricultural demonstration agent. He also was county superintendent of schools for a number of years, and at one time was a teacher at the Long Branch school.
He was a devout Christian, and for many years was connected with the Johnston Baptist church, which he served as deacon. He also was superintendent of the Sunday school, and was a familiar figure in the church choir.
Besides his wife and son, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs JW Brown, Johnston and Mrs Charles Swan, Iva, Tex, stepdaughter, Mrs JW Harris, of Dearing, Ga; two stepsons, J A Richardson, Concord Calif, and AT Richardson, Mooresville, Ala, 20 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
