Marlette Dies at 82
Darius P. Marlette, 82, former
postmaster of Fultonville, died
Tuesday at the Veterans' Hospital
in Albany, where he had
been a patient for five weeks. He
had been in ill health for the past
several years.
Born in Fultonville on Jan. 17,
1887, the son of John C. and Anna
Eliza Fonda Marlette, he had
been a lifelong resident of the
village, serving as postmaster
from 1938 until Jan. 31, 1957,
when he retired.
A veteran of World War I, he
had served with the Army in
France for 20 months and was a
member of the Floyd Deckro
American Legion Post in Fonda.
He was a member of the Fultonville
Reformed Church, and had
been a trustee and deacon for
many years. At the time of his
death he was deacon emeritus.
He had also been a member of
Fultonville
the Fultonville Masonic Lodge
and the Montgomery County
Historical Society.
His wife, the former Cora
Luderwald Van Epps, died in
1960.
He is survived by four sisters,
Mrs. Peter Morford and Mrs.
David Baldwin, both of Fultonville,
and Mrs. Elizabeth Bacchus
and Mrs. Samuel David,
Gloversville; one stepson, John
E. Van Epps of Troy; two
grandchildren, nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2
p.m. Friday at the Todd Funeral
Home in Fultonville, with the
Rev. John D. Pontier, pastor of
the Fultonville Reformed
Church, officiating. Interment
will be in the Maple Avenue
Cemetery, Fultonville.
A Masonic service will be
conducted at the funeral home
