Jedediah Smith Passes Away
Jedediah Smith, who died last Saturday morning at St. Marks hospital Salt Lake city, was buried today. A large concourse of friends paid their last respects to the departed, in attending the funeral ceremonies in our meeting house and following the body to its last resting place.
He was 36 years old, and was the son of Jane and the late Lot Smith, and leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss.
His death was caused by carrying a heavy quarter of beef up a flight of stairs just a week before his death. In some manner he got a strain that injured or displaced some part of his intestines. He was taken to Salt Lake city Thursday in a large sleigh, and an operation performed the same afternoon by four surgeons and all was done for him that science could suggest, but the strong, healthy man of a few days ago had to succumb to the grim messenger, death.
A Deseret News article dated January 13, 1894 briefly mentions that after his death at St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City, his body was sent home to Bountiful. Was not able to find this article on line, but was located on microfilm.
Checked Farmington, Salt Lake City Cemetery and Bountiful Cemetery and he is not in there records.
